An organism that literally lived in sync with the city. Hawksmoor required no sleep, no food. He draws his nutrition from the pollution in the air. He fought crime to rid the city of 'parasites' but did not consider himself a super hero. Until the day Henry Bendix recruited him for his 'new' hard-line Stormwatch along with Jenny Sparks and Rose Tattoo, with the promise of striking the corporations and governments that were the cause of such 'infestations'. Jack's powers stem from his relationship with the city. He cannot survive long outside large urban areas, but can travel between such areas by cocooning himself in a 'transit womb' which the cities create and burrowing beneath ground to his destination. He has the strength of three men (although recent issues suggest that this number is increasing) has enhanced senses and certain ... distinguishing physical characteristics. His feet are ridged for optimum traction, thus shoes only encumber him. He 'talks' to the city, 'sees' through its eyes (windows) and 'listens' to what it has to say. Past feats include limited precognition and the ability to sense residual transporter radiation. During the recent confrontation with the Gamorran super-army, Jack displayed the ability to 'merge' with the City and reappear in different locations. And on Sliding Albion, Jack was able to draw on the power of the 'violated cities' of an entire world which enabled him to defeat his opponent, Regis. Jack Hawksmoor is an enigma - perhaps because he is no longer completely human. His bond with the city propels him to hunt its vermin, yet he takes no joy in the killing. He can be savage, brutal and efficient to the extent of utter ruthlessness - yet he feels remorse at the lives he is forced to take in his quest. While early Stormwatch issues had Jack reluctant to kill, he seems to have acquired a penchant for violence. Lines like "I've been waiting to punch someone in the brains all goddamn day." And "Welcome to Los Angeles. We're here to hit you." (Yes, I know The Midnighter said the 2nd line, but it was a joint opinion) would seem to bear this out. Personally I just think Jack needs to act out his aggression on people who deserve it. Note : The Authority's current headquarters, The Carrier, is of such a size that it functions effectively as a city for Jack's bio-system.
