As she touched him, she absorbed his life energy right out of his body, sending him into a deep coma. Her father drove her from the house, not wanting a "stinking mutant freak" in his home. She was discovered by the mutant shapeshifter Mystique and joined Mystique's group of mutant criminals. During this time she absorbed the powers of Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) fully (making her extremely strong and damage resistant), and her memory as well. Ms. Marvel has not since recovered, but the experience drove Rogue to leave Mystique and search out the X-Men, hoping that their telepathic mentor, Charles Xavier, could help her. Since joining the X-Men, a relationship between her and fellow mutant Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, has been slowly growing. Powers/Tactics: Rogue does not like to use her absorption powers, because the mind-sharing is uncomfortable and of the possible danger of another complete transfer occurring. Normally she fights using her great strength and the mobility granted her by flight. She doesn't fight with any particular style or finesse; she's simply stronger than just about anyone she meets. Writer's Notes: The psyche absorption caused by the Transfer means that psych lims of the target are also temporarily hers to some degree. Keep in mind that they may conflict with her own, causing further problems. The telepathic contact and psyche absorption may take place even if the Transfer does not work due to its limitations (generally worse if the powers were magical, generally less or not at all if they were mechanical). The Side Effect does represent a 297-pt disadvantage, in effect, which should explain Rogue's reluctance to use it. It can be a VERY traumatic experience for her. Thus, even though she has a much higher point total than other X-Men, it really doesn't show that much. The angst factor helps, too. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Write-up copyright © 1996 by Tim Larson (spock@courtave.net).
