It's my greatest dream come true. No wait - that had something to do with a super-babe convention and x-ray vision...'' - Superboy looks forward to spending time in Smallville in Superboy #8. Real name: Kon-El Other known aliases: Superman, Metropolis Kid Occupation: Hero and adventurer Current group affiliation: Young Justice. Honorary member of the Legion of Superheroes. Ally to Superman, Supergirl, Steel and the Eradicator. Past group affiliations: The Ravers. Former partner to Knockout. Major enemies: Sidearm, King Shark, Cyborg II, Knockout, Match. First appearance: Adventurers of Superman #500 Origin: Superboy Annual #1 Description: Superboy is a good looking teen standing 5'7'' tall and weighing 130 lbs. He has dark hair and blue eyes. Explanation of the conversion: The Multipower represents Superboy's Tactile Telekinesis tricks. The first slot is his ability to make nearby objects fling at an opponent, but only if he is touching something that's touching them. The second slot is his Flight. The third slot allows Superboy to protect others with his kinetic aura. The fourth slot is his ability to bounce bullets and other solids off him and fire them at others. The fifth slot boosts his strength to superhuman levels. The sixth slot is used to manipulate objects or hold things in place. The two different Strength characteristics represent his normal Strength and his Strength assisted by his Multipower Strength slot. History: After Superman's death at the hands of Doomsday, his body was taken to the Cadmus Project where director Paul Westfield unsuccessfully tried to clone Superman. Whereas the Cadmus scientists had not been able to clone Superman's D.N.A., other experiments based on Superman's aura combined with the D.N.A. of Paul Westfield, director of Cadmus at the time, were successful and resulted in 12 failed attempts, who were placed in suspended animation and the clone now known as Superboy. During the growth period the clone was stuffed with various memory implants (including math, science, history, and movies) that matched up to his body's biological age of 15. The clone was also made to believe that he was actually the clone of Superman. When the new Newsboy Legion discovered that Westfield and Carl Packard tried to implant code words that would enable them to control the clone once completed, they broke free the not yet fully grown clone. Aided by the new Newsboy Legion, the clone escaped the Cadmus Project. When one of the newsboys called him Superboy, the kid was extremely annoyed and noted that his name was Superman (Adventures of Superman #500 and Superboy #0) He then took off and headed towards Metropolis, where he ran into Sidearm, a criminal equipped with a couple of robot arms. Still believing himself to be Superman's clone at the time, Superboy was counting on his super-vision powers to give him an edge in the battle. As he could not make those powers kick in, due to the fact that he was not Superman's clone, Sidearm almost brought the 'Metropolis Kid' to a quick demise, but then his tactile telekinesis powers kicked in and short-circuited Sidearm's robot arms. Superboy then used those arms to hang Sidearm on a lamppost for the police to find (Superboy #0). The following morning he saved a young woman from being run over by a group of young street punks that had stolen a cab. The news of that incident, unlike that of the kid's battle with Sidearm, quickly found its way to the media and joined a number of other reported Superman sightings. Along with the appearance of Superboy, three other persons had taken on the S-shield and begun adventuring as Superman (Adventures of Superman #501). Superboy soon met Tana Moon, an aspiring reporter. Her exclusive interview with the clone got her a job at G.B.S., and she and the kid became a consistent ratings getter. While doing another publicity stunt for G.B.S., Supergirl showed up and invited him to join her and Lex Luthor II for dinner. Infatuated by Supergirl he accepted. At the dinner Luthor tried to convince Superboy that he would be in a better position at W.L.E.X. than at G.B.S., but it wasn't until Supergirl mentioned that they would be working together every day that the kid was won over. After the dinner he met up with Vinnie Edge and Tana at Clark Kent's old apartment. As Clark was presumed dead during the Doomsday incident, Edge had arranged for Superboy to move into his now available apartment. Before Superboy had the chance to tell them about his new arrangement with Luthor, Edge introduced Superboy to his close personal friend Rex Leech, whom he had hired to manage Superboy's affairs. This included some staged events to boost Superboy's popularity. To this day, Superboy doesn't not know that Rex has arranged these events. Before long Superboy ended up signing a contract with Rex who immediately got on with the business of trademarking the name of Superman for the kid (Adventures of Superman #501-#502). One of these staged events caused the destruction of Hobsneck bridge. At this bridge Stinger had brought Superboy to his knees, but when Supergirl unexpectedly showed up Stinger decided to leave as she was not part of his contract. Before leaving, however, he placed a series of explosive charges and blew up Hobsneck Bridge, burying the two heroes in the rubble. Luckily the heroes survived and were able to save a great many lives (Adventures of Superman #502). Shortly thereafter Coast City was destroyed. The Cyborg Superman summoned him to investigate the crises at his side. Superboy quickly left for Coast City where he met up with the Cyborg Superman and a G.B.S. News team all of whom then went into the blast zone in search of the rogue Superman. Just as the group was approaching the remains of Coast City the Cyborg used his heat vision to blow up the G.B.S. helicopter killing everybody inside. Before Superboy had any time to react the Cyborg was over him and although he fought valiantly the Cyborg eventually brought him down (Adventures of Superman #503). While the Cyborg had Superboy restrained, he told him of his plans to destroy Earth and make it into another Warworld. While the Cyborg and Mongul were elsewhere planning their next move, Superboy panicked and triggered his tactile telekinetic powers, blowing up his restraints. Although exhausted The kid managed to escape. Knowing that he couldn't take on the bad guys himself and knowing that the Justice League of America were in space he went back to Metropolis to find help. After a flight home, Superboy found Steel, Supergirl, and the real Superman who had come back to life, and to Metropolis The four heroes headed to the former Coast City, Engine City where they went up against the Cyborg II, Mongul and their minions. When the Cyborg launched an Engine City missile, headed for Metropolis, Superboy grabbed onto it and managed to deflect it just before impact and instead it blew up over the sea (Adventures of Superman #504). Superboy barely survived the blast, but stayed in Metropolis for a short while to help solve a string of crimes by aliens. During this time he became a deputy of the Metropolis Police Department's S.C.U. (Special Crimes Unit). While investigating the crimes he made his way to a bar called the Ace o' Clubs where he first encountered the dog Krypto, who blue his cover as a minor trying to sneak into a bar and got him thrown out. He fought the aliens along side the lovely and newly created metahuman Sparx. Sparx kissed Superboy for helping her. When she approached him in her human form later, Superboy didn't recognize her and turned down her offer for dinner (Adventurers of Superman Annual #5). Then he headed back in Engine City and assisted Superman, Steel, Supergirl, the Eradicator, and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) in bringing down the Cyborg and Mongul (Superman Vol. 2 #82). They were victorious, and returned to Metropolis. Later at Superboy's apartment, The kid was taking a well deserved rest, until he was woken by Tana, who stopped by to let him know that she has quit G.B.S. and is leaving Metropolis (Adventures of Superman #505). Some days later Superboy was attacked by a group of Payback D.N.Aliens from Cadmus and only the timely intervention of Superman saved the kid. Later the Guardian caught up with the kid and assured him that Cadmus wasn't trying to kill him. Superman showed up and asked the kid to give the Guardian the benefit of a doubt and go back to Cadmus and furthermore he promised Superboy that he wouldn't be taken prisoner or harmed. To ensure this, Kal-El went with them to learn the truth about Superboy's origin. All three then went to Cadmus where they learned that he is not really a clone of Superman and that his powers are connected to experiments involving Superman's aura. Guardian then suggested that they have Dubbilex keep tabs on him while acting as the projects goodwill ambassador (Adventures of Superman #505). That evening, back at Superboy's apartment, the kid sold back the Superman trademark to the real Superman for one dollar. Kal-El then allowed the Superboy to use the S-shield and the name Superboy if half the profits went to charity. After giving it a little thought (and throwing a temper tantrum) he realized that maybe it isn't such a bad name after all. At least it indicated that he'd be next in line. Meanwhile, Rex decided that it was time for a world tour to establish the new name (Adventures of Superman #505). Before long Superboy found himself on tour. After stopping off in Hawaii, the kid decided to make it home. Along for the ride were Rex, his tough-as-nails daughter, Roxy, and Dubbilex. Not long after arriving in Hawaii, Superboy learned that Tana Moon, the television reporter who had covered his adventures in Metropolis, was now living in Hawaii as well. The two became something of an on-again-off-again item. When returning to Hawaii from a trip via jet with Dubbilex, the jet was struck by lightning over Kansas during a temporal anomaly which allowed an alternate teenage version of Superman called Superboy to come to this world. The two Superboys saved the jet by helping it land in Smallville. The two Superboys briefly fought over who was the real Superboy before they realized that the new Superboy had arrived from a parallel world. While in Smallville our Superboy met Clark Kent's old heart throb Lana Lang as well as Superman's adoptive parents, John and Martha Kent, although he didn't know they were related to Superman (Superboy #8). About the time of his first birthday Dubbilex got a mental flash from Guardian at Cadmus. Superboy and Dubbilex went to investigate and the discovered that the people repairing the Cadmus facility had uncovered the first 12 failed Superman clones in stasis. They also discovered the Newsboy Legion spying on them. While investigating they accidentally released one of the defective clones, who they discovered was dying. This clone briefly wanted to take Superboys' place, and displayed powers like heat vision and x-ray vision. They eventually recovered the clone about the time they found records that human genetic donor for all the Superboys was Cadmus director Westfield. This didn't thrill Superboy, who hated Westfield. The defective clone then died. When Superboy arrived back in Hawaii he was met by Superman, who told him about how he was confused when he first learned he was an alien, which made Superboy feel better. Superboy then received a surprise birthday party thrown by his friends in Hawaii (Superboy Annual #2). In a relatively short time, Superboy had encountered foes including Sidearm, Scavenger, King Shark, Silver Sword, and Copperhead and many others! He'd formed a confusing and dangerously flirtatious relationship with the metahuman called Knockout, who would just as soon kiss him as kill him. He had also formed an alliance with head of the Honolulu S.C.U., Sam Makoa and run afoul of truant officer Mack Harlin, who corralled Superboy into going to school. Although Superboy had to leave his placement tests early, his implanted knowledge caused his test scores to be high enough to be a Sophmore in Ilupani High School. Here he met one of his best friends, Hillary Chang. Later Mack Harlin allowed the kid to be home schooled by Dubbilex after a fight with Apokolips' Female Furies destroyed his school. Superboy joined up with Alpha Centurion, Steel, Supergirl and the Eradicator to free Superman when he was captured by the Tribunal (Steel #22). When Superboy aided the Legion of Super-Heroes they made him an honorary member and awarded him with a flight ring. When the Legion heard that Superboy had given the ring to his friend Roxy, they came to Hawaii to revoke him membership. During their visit Superboy and the Legion clashed with Silver Sword as he attempted to steal the Spear of Lono from a museum. Superboy had to turn down the romantic advances of Legion member Triad. After working together the Legion returned his membership (Superboy #45). After his recent visit to the "Wild Lands" he has decided to be a field agent for the newly restructured Cadmus outside of Metropolis. Around the time of Superboy's 2nd birthday, on a trip to Superman's Fortress of Solitude, Kal-El officially adopted Superboy as a cousin, and named him Kon-El. This was one of Superboy's proudest moments. Before this, he never felt he needed a real name, that he was just Superboy. Now he uses the name with great pride. Shortly thereafter, a Superboy died on the table of the Justice League of America, and Superboy was sent through hypertimelines by the Justice League of America to defeat the villain Black Zero from destroying every time line of the universe. During this trip through hypertime, Kon-El found out that Clark Kent was Superman when he teamed up with an alternate Kal-El who became Superboy at the age of 13. Powers: Superboy has a tactile telekinetic aura which allows him to simulate superhuman strength, to fly, protects him from harm and allows him to manipulate objects that are nearby. He had learned to extend this field through solid matter that is touching his body. He has been able to protect others, hold opponents in place, manipulate or disassemble objects and launch objects at high speed. Superboy heals very quickly. At one time Superboy did not age, but he ages normally now. It is believed that Superboy as the potential to develop other powers as he matures, including heat and x-ray vision as well as enhanced hearing. Character created by DC Comics.
