I am a MOTH!" Background: Arthur's boyhood desire to become a hero seemed only a pipe dream until two events changed his life. The first was his purchase for $75 of what he thought was a Halloween costume at an auction of the estate of eccentric millionaire inventor Montinero Vatos. The costume was, in fact, a prototype flying suit -- Vatos' life work. Arthur became so obsessed with the suit that he began wearing it (without the wings) to his job at a presitgious accounting firm. The company put him on leave pending psychiatric evaluation. The second event was the Tick, who plummeted from a rooftop and smashed hip-deep into the sidewalk in front of Arthur as he was leaving his workplace. Arthur was awed by this confrontation with a "real" superhero, and the Tick was only too happy to take on a sidekick to further the development of his heroic schtick. The Tick moved into Arthur's apartment, scheduled daily patrols of The City, and generally took over Arthur's life. Arthur still has trouble explaining to his family what he now does for a living. Powers and Abilities: Montinero Vatos may have been crazy, but his flying suit really works. By flapping his arms, Arthur is able to swoop through the air like a moth. The wings retract into a small case or pack on the suit's back when not in use. In addition, the suit's oversized goggles provide minimal Flash Defense and can be adjusted like binoculars for better viewing of distant objects. A document enclosed with the suit promised all sorts of other advanced features but Arthur has not been able to determine what they are. Use of the suit has improved Arthur's physical fitness; before all that arm- flapping he was STR 8 and CON 10. Arthur's real strengths, however, are his level-headedness and quick wit in the face of the Tick's goofy antics and the outrages perpetrated by The City's villain community. He's the one who figures out how to thwart the bad guys when the Tick's brute strength can't. His above- average EGO represents his ability to stand his ground, even while screaming in terror, when threatened by evil-doers who really do have super powers. Disadvantages: Arthur has no combat ability, although he has gotten pretty good at dodging the blasts and blows of the Tick's opponents. He underrates his own talents and is easily impressed by superheroes and supervillains. Height: cm (5' 8"), Weight: kg (185 lbs), Sex: Male, Race: Caucasian Appearance: Arthur wears a skin-tight white bodysuit that features an enormous pair of moth wings, a set of antennae, and huge bubble-like goggles. Unfortunately, the tight suit highlights his middle-aged girth rather than superhero muscles, and the antennae do look uncommonly like rabbit ears when the wings are folded behind his back. ====================== Hero System write-up by Kevin Scrivner
