He returned from college to find his old neighborhood in the grip of drug lord "King" Solomon Brown and practically abandoned by city authorities. Feeling betrayed by the system, Kevin vowed to clean up the streets himself. He began intensive athletic training under the guidance of his Uncle Abdul, going so far as to study with Shaolin monks. His scientific training enabled him to create weapons and tools with which to fulfill his mission. King then began patrolling the neighborhood at night. His first major victory was the rescue of eight-year-old Jamaica Isley from kidnappers. Isley told New Jericho Times reporter Regina Foster that her unknown savior had "come down on those goons like chocolate thunder." The grateful girl filled the sidewalks and walls near her apartment with murals and graffiti praising the mysterious hero. To King's chagrin, her childish name was adopted by the public, and he's been Chocolate Thunder ever since. Powers and Abilities: Kevin King has no paranormal abilities. He is, however, a gadgeteering genius and a superb athlete. He's armed himself with crime-fighting gizmos of his own design. Familiar with 17 martial arts styles, he has specialized in Shaolin-variety Kung Fu. King's most potent weapon against crime, however, may be his excellent knowledge of and rapport with the common people of Brick City. Disadvantages: Jamaica Isley continues to be a headache for Chocolate Thunder. She's decided that her hero needs a sidekick, so she's begun sneaking out at night to try to locate him. Whether he's a hero or not depends on whom you ask. Brick City residents are quick to praise the man who prevented them from being mugged and who captured the thugs who smashed their windows if they failed to pay for "protection." Police Commissioner Duke Stratton, however, condemns what he calls "an unpardonable outbreak of lawlessness." Fortunately for King, the policemen who still patrol the borough are few and are inclined to be sympathetic as long as he doesn't flagrantly violate the law. King Solomon, however, resents those who interfere with his operations, has spies everywhere, and has more than one city official on his payroll. It is rumored that he recently has acquired henchmen who possess unnatural abilities. Height: cm (6' 1"), Weight: kg (192 lbs), Sex: Male, Race: Black Appearance: Kevin King is a taciturn man in his mid- to late twenties with close-cropped hair and the lithe build of a gymnast or lightweight boxer. When he does speak, he's capable of rousing oratory or quiet persuasion depending on the circumstances. He does most of his talking to the young people of Brick City, encouraging them toward responsibility and self-reliance. When he encounters members of King Solomon's drug ring, he lets his fists do the talking. Chocolate Thunder began his crime-fighting career clad in a yellow and black armored bodysuit resembling a diver's wetsuit and carrying a backpack full of devices. He quickly found this encumbering and now contents himself with his utility belt and a bulletproof vest beneath his street clothes. His vigilante "costume" consists of a red pullover sweater with a stylized fist logo on the chest, dark slacks, a pair of wraparound sunglasses, and fingerless leather gloves. ========== Hero System write-up by Kevin Scrivner
