He was hired by George Clarendon, a wealthy criminologist, to clip crime stories out of national newspapers and analyze the cases. Unknown to Burke, "Clarendon" was actually The Shadow, and his assignment was an examination of sorts. After his insightful summaries helped Clarendon break a big case, Burke was contacted by Harry Vincent and recruited as an agent of The Shadow. He still doesn't know that Clarendon and The Shadow are the same man. The Shadow helped Burke land a job with the "New York Classic," a sleazy tabloid in need of a crime reporter. While his friends at police headquarters constantly remind Burke that he's capable of greater things, the mismanaged tabloid gives him a freedom of movement he wouldn't have at a respectable paper. His press pass and his rapport with the police enable him to examine crime scenes and gather inside information. Burke is a master at gleaning essential information from seemingly endless court documents and library files. His Deduction skill represents his ability to recognize patterns in seemingly unrelated tidbits of information. His efforts save The Shadow countless hours of preparation. Player characters may initially be put off by his employer's reputation, but they will find Clyde Burke to be a competent, serious young man. He listens more than he speaks, but when Burke does finally ask a question it goes straight to the heart of the matter being discussed. Height: cm (5' 6"), Weight: kg (140 lbs), Sex: Male, Race: Caucasian Appearance: Burke is wiry man in his mid-twenties with a determined set to his mouth. He typically sticks his press pass in the band of his fedora and often wears the slacks and vest of his inexpensive suit without the jacket.
