I -- I never thought that you would be a coward!'' - Sue tears into Ben when he suggests they wait to launch the rocket in Fantastic Four #1 Real name: Susan Richards Other known aliases: Susan Storm, Susan Benjamin, Mistress of Hate, Invisible Girl, Malice II Occupation: Full time hero, former model and actress. Current group affiliation: Fantastic Four Past group affiliations: Avengers, Brides of Set, Hounds of Ahab, Army of the Goddess. Major enemies: Dr. Doom, the Skrulls, Galactus. First appearance: Fantastic Four #1 Origin: Fantastic Four #1 Description: Sue is an attractive woman in her mid-thirties who is 5'6'' tall and weighs 120 lbs. She has blonde hair and normally wears the Fantastic Four team uniform, a blue jump suit with a white circle and a four on the chest. History: Susan Storm, the eldest of two children born to a physician and his wife, grew up comfortably in suburban Long Island. At age 12 she met her future husband, Reed Richards, then a Columbia University graduate student living in her aunt's New York city rooming house. Enamored of the shy but handsome scientist, Sue promised to keep in touch with him. When she moved to California to pursue an acting career, Sue again encountered Richards, and the two began a romantic relationship. An aeronautical engineer, Richards was working on a starship that would make it possible to travel to other solar systems. When the government threatened to cut off its partial funding of the project, Richards decided to make an immediate test flight. It would have been just him and his friend, pilot Benjamin Grimm, but Susan and her brother, Johnny, insisted on going along. In space, the starship unexpectedly encountered intense radiation, which caused the crew to abort the flight and crash to Earth. Once back on Earth, the foursome discovered they'd been mutagenically altered by the cosmic rays. Ben was transformed into the orange stone-skinned Thing. Reed became the elastic bodied Mister Fantastic. Sue gained the ability to become invisible to the naked eye and became the Invisible Girl. Johnny gained powers over fire and became the Human Torch II. Richards convinced the others that the four of them should use their newfound powers for the good of humanity as members of a team he named the Fantastic Four. Sue's powers eventually expanded to make other things invisible, to make invisible things visible, and to project an invisible force field. During her tenure with the team, she married Reed and eventually had a child, Franklin. Due to their cosmic ray enhancement, giving birth was extremely difficult, and her second child was born stillborn. Later, the Invisible Girl was the target of the Psycho-Man and Hate-Monger II, who succeeded in brainwashing her to attack her teammates as Malice, the Mistress of Hate, using her powers in deadly new ways. Reed soon helped Sue snap out of it. After that she decided to change her battle name to the Invisible Woman. Later still, Sue convinced Reed to take with her a leave of absence from adventuring, to raise Franklin in a normal life. This did not last too long, as Franklin was kidnapped by Nanny and her Orphan-maker, drawing Sue and Reed into adventuring with the Captain and reforming the Avengers. Once the Avengers were on their feet again, Sue and Reed soon left their assemblage, finding their way back to the Fantastic Four once again. During the Infinity Crusade, Sue was mentally controlled by the Goddess (Web of Spider-Man #106). During a period of time when the world thought Mister Fantastic dead, Sue took Reed's place as team leader of the Fantastic Four, eventually finding Reed and battling their alternate future grandchild, Hyperstorm. Not long after, Sue was with the Fantastic Four fighting Onslaught, and apparently died with the other heroes while defeating him. Actually reborn into an alternate universe, Sue was among the heroes recently returning to our reality. Sue was on hand when the Fantastic Four set up their new operations on Pier 4, and continued to serve alongside the Fantastic Four and as a member of the superhero community. Powers: Susan's powers are based on her ability to generate solid force constructs. All of her constructs are, by nature, invisible, and she can also turn herself invisible. She has developed several different uses for these constructs over the years and is now an extremely powerful character. Also as her namesake suggests, she can become invisible, turn others invisible and suppress other people's invisibility. For a brief time she was transformed into a a stone skinned Thing-like creature with superhuman strength and resistance to injury. Character created by Marvel Comics. Page setup by Mathew R.
