Occupation: Adventurer, former criminal and engineer. Current group affiliation: Thunderbolts Past group affiliations: Sinister Syndicate, Masters of Evil III, he turned down membership in the Masters of Evil VI. Major enemies: Masters of Evil VI, Rhino, Boomerang, formerly Baron Zemo II. First appearance: Strange Tales #123 Origin: Description: Abner is 5'11'' tall and weighs 175 lbs. He has brown eyes and hair. Because of advanced cosmetic surgery he appears to be black. Explanation of the conversion: Having Enhanced Senses in a Power Framework requires special permission from the Game Master. History: Abner Jenkins was a master mechanic at Precision Aircraft Parts of Queens, New York for seven years. Bored with his job, he tried to interest the company in a set of plans for some new innovative hydraulic technology he'd created that would allow him to create a personal flying suit. He was ignored by his superiors due to his lack of an engineering degree. Despondent over the lack of respect they showed him he used his plans as the basis for his first Beetle armor (Thunderbolts: Distant Rumblings #1). He turned to crime in hopes of winning the fame, wealth, and thrills denied him at work. His first super powered opponent was the Human Torch II, but he became a perennial foe of both Daredevil and Spider-Man. Later in his career he frequently allied himself with other super-criminals, both in the Masters of Evil III and his own Sinister Syndicate. While with the third Masters he first met Moonstone II, who would later become a fellow Thunderbolt. He has redesigned his armor over the years. He also worked for Justin Hammer as an enforcer. Due to his failures as a leader he made enemies of several other super villains, such as Boomerang and Rhino. Since that time, Jenkins became increasingly upset with his failure to achieve success in this career, either. Abe was approached by Baron Zemo II to become part of him Thunderbolts scheme, and become the hero MACH-1. His armor has been reworked turning it into the MACH-1 armor, with the considerable assistance of Techno. As MACH-1, which stands for Mobile Armored Cyber-Harness, he's capable of high-speed flight and maneuverability, and has a wide variety of on-board sensors, communications equipment and weaponry, including machine guns, missile launchers, and gas grenades. His armor is very maneuverable and capable of high speed flight. After spending a good deal of time with her Abe started a romance with fellow Thunderbolt Songbird. Abe sided with most of the other Thunderbolts when they rebelled against Zemo and became real heroes. Crimson Cowl III then offered the team the option to join her Masters of Evil VI, and gave them time to think about it. With the Thunderbolts, MACH-1 helped stop a bank robbery in Boulder, Colorado and were approached from some kids who escaped from Burton Canyon. They reported that an army called the Imperial Forces had taken over the town and no one would help. The Thunderbolts infultrated the town and were confronted with Charcoal The Burning Man. After allowing themselves to be captured in civilian identities, Moonstone II snuck in with their costumes and they broke out the other captives and fought Charcoal. During the fight the Masters arrived told them they had to make up their minds soon about joining them, and Charcoal escaped (Thunderbolts #19). With Hawkeye now leading the Thunderbolts, Abe was asked to turn himself in to do time for a murder he had committed as the Beetle, and served time in Seagate prison. Since the Vault had recently been destroyed he served with a number of other super villains. While in prison he foiled a prison break masterminded by Justin Hammer and involving the Rhino, Boomerang and Whirlwind. This was noticed by U.S. Government agents Peter Gyrich and Valorie Cooper, who arranged to get him out of prison if he agreed to work under cover for them. He built a new Beetle armor and pretended to audition as a mercenary for Hammer. After he returned to the Thunderbolts Techno (who was impersonating Thunderbolts member Ogre) helped Abe build a new armor called MACH-2 and operated on Abe to change his looks so no one would know it was Abe, who was supposedly still in prison. Abe took the name Matthew Davis. Abe was able to fineally gain a pardon thanks to a deal cut by Hawkeye, but under the agreement that he gave up his armor and agreed to avoid heroic activities. He and Songbird left the Thunderbolts together (Thunderbolts #50). Powers: Abe has no superhuman powers but he does wear a suit of power armor which he and Techno created. The Mobile Armored Cyber-Harness Mark 2 allows Abe to fly, increases his strength, protects him from harm, offers a suite of enhanced sensors and is invisible to most conventional forms of electronic detection. His inbuilt weapon systems include gas grenades, tranq bullets, rubber bullets, explosive missles, electromagnetic pulse grenades, and an optical flash weapon to blind opponents. He can lift at least 5 tons while in the armor. Character created by Marvel Comics. Champions rules conversion by Mathew R. Ignash - mathewignash@yahoo.com. Last Updated - October, 2001
