However, when Lamont Cranston wants to go somewhere he usually flags down cabbie Moe Shrevnitz, affectionately known as "Shrevvy." Although the radio show treats Shrevnitz largely as comic relief, in the pulps he's one of the crime fighter's most trusted agents. Besides Harry Vincent, Shrevnitz is the first Shadow agent player characters are likely to meet. His business takes him all over the city, and he caters to all classes of customers. If The Shadow wants an eye kept on the PCs, Shrevvy will contrive to have his cab always available for them at the nearest curb. He will attempt to draw them into a conversation, subtly probing for details such as what the characters' plans are, where they are staying, who they are meeting with. If the PCs become suspicious, Shrevnitz will apologize with a shrug: "Hey, just making conversation, ya know?" Powers and Abilities: Shrevvy can drive almost anything on wheels, and drive it fast. If he's told to "follow that car" or to reach the docks before Mr. Big can ship out, Shrevnitz will do it. In addition to being intimately familiar with New York's streets, he's got an encyclopedic knowledge of the destinations that line them. He will be the one to remember that the hot new nightclub Cranston and Lane are dining at used to be the old Clarendon warehouse, which had concealed entrances for bootlegging. He will also be the one to expose the Axis agent who has infiltrated the characters' party by asking him baseball questions that every loyal American should know the answers to. And he never gets lost, even in out of the way neighborhoods. Disadvantages: Unfortunately, Shrevnitz's automotive exploits have not gone unnoticed by New York's traffic cops or by other cab drivers. His driving record is clean but the police would like nothing better than to catch him in some minor traffic violation so they can haul him in for questioning. And the other taxi drivers, jealous, have hurt his business by spreading rumors about how dangerous he is to ride with. Some PCs might also consider his constant chatter annoying. GMs should note that while Shrevvy has chutzpah to spare, he's not a tough guy. If he gets jumped by the PCs or by the bad guys, they'll beat the snot out of him. His loyalty to The Shadow is unshakable. He will allow gangsters to beat him to death before he will betray The Shadow's secrets. Height: cm ( 5' 3"), Weight: kg (170 lbs), Sex: Male, Race: Caucasian Appearance: Moe Shrevnitz is a small, paunchy, stoop-shouldered man with a thick Bronx accent. His chatty blue-collar demeanor has sometimes caused passengers to underestimate him, but his dark eyes are quick and intelligent. ================ Hero System write-up by Kevin Scrivner
