It was released in the United States in 1964 as four feature films: "Atomic Rulers of the World," "Invaders From Space," Attack From Space," and "Evil Brain From Outer Space." Background: The interstellar community became alarmed when Earth's barbaric inhabitants developed rocketry and atomic weaponry within the same decade. A vision of humans rampaging across the galaxy armed with weapons of mass destruction caused the High Council of the Emerald Planet to dispatch an investigator at once. Super Giant's mission was to determine the progress of the various tribal groups' atomic weapons programs and to encourage mankind to cease nuclear testing. He arrived in Japan to discover that the militaristic Sapphirians had also sent spies to Earth as a prelude to invasion. The Sapphire Planet's navy managed to bomb the Tower of London and the Empire State Building before Super Giant defeated the fleet. The people called the creature who had saved them "Starman." Almost immediately, however, a homegrown threat appeared. American gangsters constructed an atomic bomb out of stolen radioactive material and plotted to hold Japan for ransom. Super Giant tracked them down before they could level Tokyo. Next, the amphibious Caprians decided to protect themselves from potential radioactive contamination from Earth by introducing a plague that would wipe out all human life. Super Giant foiled that plot by capturing the salamander men's chief scientist/magician. Since the situation on Earth appeared to be stabilized, Super Giant returned to his home. Bad timing. The dying dictator of the robotic Ziman empire, an evil genuis known as Balazar, instructed his brain to be transferred to a device that would keep it alive. He decided that Earth -- with its population of warlike, easily manipulated primitives -- would be an inconspicuous place from which to regroup and launch his conquest of the galaxy. Getting wind of his plans, the High Council again sent Super Giant to Earth. By the time he arrived, however, Balazar's brain had already infiltrated and gained telepathic control of the Japanese mafia. Augmenting his gunmen with hideous alien mutants, Balazar began a reign of terror that ended only when Super Giant slew the monsters and shut off the disembodied mastermind's life support. Powers and Abilities: An alien "man of steel" (or whatever alloy serves that function on the Emerald Planet), Super Giant is impervious to harm from most physical and energy attacks as well as from any environment he might encounter while traveling in outer space. The holographic circuit that enables him to pass for human also enables him to assume his "Starman" guise instantly. His minor control of gravitic fields enables him to cling to surfaces so that he can walk normally on the exterior of rocketships hurtling through the void. In addition, the High Council has entrusted him with the Globemeter, an unobtrusive device that enables Super Giant to understand all Earth languages, to fly, and to sense and analyze all types of radiation. Super Giant is much stronger than a human being, although he's not as powerful as that other extraterrestrial Man of Steel. He makes up the difference with his mastery of an odd martial art that looks like a mixture of Jiu-jitsu and Karate. He's fully capable of tackling 20 opponents at a time -- a good thing since the cosmic mutant scum he's up against usually travel in swarms. It also helps that they line up single file to attack him. DIsadvantages: Quite the dutiful hero, Super Giant never takes advantage of an opponent, always obeys his superiors, and protects innocent bystanders. Those bystanders often include small children eager to assist their idol. Super Giant's adult foes are less appreciative. In addition to the would-be invaders he continually thwarts, the android is sought by the Japanese mafia -- which is still aching from from his battle with Balazar. The United States and the Soviet Union aren't thrilled by Super Giant's anti-nuclear agenda and are trying to gather as much information about his activities as possible. The Japanese Secret Service, under pressure from the U.S., does its own share of spying on him. Also, in the unlikely event that he becomes injured, there is a chance for Super Giant to revert to his true Emeraldian form, an occurrence sure to startle the youngsters who admire him. Height: cm (5' 3"), Weight: kg (140 lbs), Sex: Male, Race: Emeraldian Construct Appearance: Super Giant's true visage is moot since he simulates human form for the duration of his mission on Earth. He appears to be a muscular, clean-shaven Japanese man with bushy eyebrows in his early thirties. He wears a business suit while investigating mutant incursions. When he springs into action as "Starman," he dons a white leotard that includes a wing-like cape beneath his arms. A white hood covers his head but leaves his face exposed. It has either a rounded clear plastic fin or an antenna on the top. A narrow black belt with a disc-shaped buckle circles his waist. Although movie posters show him brandishing a brace of ray guns, he typically defeats the bad guys with flashy fisticuffs. ========== Hero System write-up by Kevin Scrivner.
